Servings: 7 shawarmas
Ingredients:
  • 1 and 1/2 lbs. boneless beef
Note: you can also use boneless chicken

Marination for beef:
  • 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 pinch of clove powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground garlic
Ingredients for sauce:
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dill
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground garlic
  • 1/2 cup chopped cubes of cucumber
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon cilantro
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 500 mL sour cream
Other ingredients:
  • 1 medium sized red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup of green and black olives

Directions:

Take the boneless beef and cut into thin slices for Shawarma. Marinate it with the marinating ingredients for about 24 hours in the fridge.

Take a non-stick pan and on medium-high heat, cook the boneless beef meat. Begin stirring it around after 2 minutes.

Approximately 6 minutes later it will look like this:

After about 15 minutes, when all the water has disappeared, cover the pan with its lid for 4 minutes.
when all the water has evaporated

Take off the lid, and keep stirring. Once all the water has dried, sprinkle 1 teaspoon of crushed chilli, and stir. Now your boneless beef is ready to fill the shawarmas.

For the sour cream sauce, take all the sauce ingredients and mix in a medium sized bowl, and squeeze out the juice from half a lemon into it.

When assembling the shawarma. Take a pita (whole wheat or white), and open it up only half way as seen in picture. Then take 3-4 tablespoons of the cooked meat and place inside, then 1 tablespoons of slice red onions, 1 tablespoon of green olives and 1 tablespoon of black olives. Then place 3 tablespoons of the sour cream sauce.

Then fold the upper part of the pita under the filling and then fold again.
you can see in this picture, the top half the pita has been folded in half over the filling

Microwave the shawarma for 15 seconds. Your delicious shawarma is now ready to serve!
